about
Every spring, a family of birds comes to build a nest in the porch lamp of our front porch. They seem to arrive around March, build their nest, lay some eggs, their baby birds are born, then I guess they somehow teach them to fly pretty quick, and then, by May or June, they're gone. Anyway, this particular Spring, I loved to watch them outside my window, doing all of this, and one day, I happen to be fiddling with my guitar while I watched them and, before I knew it, this song was born. I believe I wrote it to sort of "cheer myself up". My mom had just passed away in March and I was missing her. But the birds were cheering me up. They showed me that you can "rise above the clouds" and carry on happily, just the way our loved ones would want us to. I realized after that, that there are many things we can learn from animals and nature.
And yes, those are the same birds in the recording. :)
P.S. - There is, also, a "bare bones" (guitar & vocal only) recording of this song available on this site, (see discography on right side of this page). And, at this time, I'd like to thank all of my supporters for making it possible for me to finally bring to you this "full production" version of this song. :) My gratefulness has no bounds...
A special note...
Tribute To Mom
Two years ago today, my mom left this earth. She was a great mom; a wonderful artist; an awesome singer and one of my very first inspirations; a cheery lady who loved to laugh, (I guess she was one of the main characters in the story of my life who was largely responsible for the sense of humor I have today!) She was, also, one of my biggest supporters and cheerleaders, and one of my very best friends. So I thought it was fitting to release this new single digital download today, in her honor, since I feel that, in some way, she inspired it and since it was written right around the time of her last days here. I also dedicate it to all of those who have dreams they are striving towards, who continue to persevere, despite all challenges, just like all the “pretty birds that rise above the clouds that they find out there”, like the lyrics in the song go. Here's to you, Mom, and all free spirits…<3

“Pretty Bird Outside My Window”
music & lyrics by,
Jeannie Willets (Copyright 2013 J.Willets.)
Pretty bird outside my window,
Pretty bird, you sing so sweetly without a care,
Pretty bird outside my window,
You just fly above the clouds that you find out there
You just soar along your way,
You don't let a gloomy day cloud your mind, Pretty bird.
Pretty kitty on my pillow,
Pretty kitty, you stretch out and enjoy your day,
Pretty kitty on my pillow
Purrs so gently as she sends all her love my way
You just let love lead the way,
You don't let a word they say change your mind...you just love.
Nature reminds us, constantly,
How we can live in harmony.
Pretty bird outside my window,
You just rise above the clouds that you find out there,
You just soar along your way, yeah,
You don't let a gloomy day change your life, Pretty bird.
Pretty bird...(3x)
